MINING

IOGS is one of the prime source of Garnet from South India. The mines are situated in what is considered the world’s best source of heavy minerals, on the south east coast of peninsular India in the Gulf of Mannar. IOGS mines are rich in high grade natural Almandine Garnet with particle size ranging from 8 to 120 mesh.

PROCESSING

"The company has three state-of-the-art mineral processing plants producing about 60,000mt of Garnet per annum. The Pre-concentration plant concentrates the Garnet in the raw sand and the Garnet concentrate is processed in two other plants, as one separate plant is configured to manufacture grades suited for sand-blasting while the other for water-jet cutting. The concentrate is processed using world-class machinery like Electrostatic roll separators from Carrara, Australia, Rare Earth Magnetic and Roll Separators of Eriez, USA which remove all magnetic and nonmagnetic impurities. The purified Garnet is graded inline using modern vibrating screens (Rotex, USA & indigenous vibro screens) to various grades with tight size specifications.".
